Many millennia ago, when civilization was still new to the realm of the humans, the Kamitsune lived peacefully in their own Spirit Realm, feeding off the energy and essence of flora and fauna that inhabited their own world. No-one saw any need to cross the Veil. They had everything they could possibly need, why would they want to? Humans were strange creatures, after all. Primitive and uncultured by comparison. What could they offer to the Kamitsune?

For centuries, the fox-like beings were content to keep to themselves, but curiosity eventually set in. Slowly, the Kamitsune crept across the Veil, watching and following the lives of these odd hairless things, and it wasn't long before it was discovered that the human's Essences were indeed powerful. Far better than what the Kamitsune had been living off of before. Word spread and soon more and more were crossing the barrier between worlds.

The Royal Family quickly set rules and boundaries to keep their kin safe from the much more violent human species. With the Royal's guidance, a harmony of sorts developed, and the Kamitsune flourished like never before. They spread out throughout the human world, creating new areas of the Spirit World that grew and continued to grow, expanding their own world beyond what they thought could ever be possible. Influences from the Human World bled over, helping to shape these new cities, creating new cultures even. But it wasn't just the positive influences that slipped through.

For the first time ever, the Kamitsune witnessed destruction and carnage. War and desperation. To most, it was a horrific realization. How could these people fight among themselves so? To what purpose? But others found it fascinating.

Power. Greed. Dominance. Superiority.

These new desires gave way to new Essences, strong and fierce and altogether intoxicating, but frightening at the same time. Most Kamitsune did their best to stay away from feeding on these, for the rush that came with them was too overwhelming. But some, some developed an insatiable taste and lust for them. Nothing else could compare to the power that coursed through them after a feeding. They found they could go longer between feedings, and their powers seemed to grow stronger. What a feeling it was! But it came with a price.

Unlike the normal Essences, with these new ones came a devastating crash. The Kamitsune were more tired, or twitchy. Irritable. They were prone to outbursts, some more violent than others, but always there was a need and want for more. Like a drug, they craved that which made them feel more alive. They fed more and more, and over time, they slowly began to lose themselves, tainting and corrupting their very beings with these darker Essences, and gradually, they, themselves started to change. White wings faded, first turning grey, then black. On some, even the whites of their eyes followed suit. They developed horns even, and their claws, both hand and feet alike, grew longer, harder, fiercer. Despite these outward appearances, it was their personalities that changed the most. The darker sides of the Human world corrupted their minds as well. They grew restless, not content any longer to be as they were. They wanted more, they wanted to rule, to dictate how they felt things should be.

At first it was only small skirmishes, but soon enough, as the ranks of the corrupted Angea grew, all out war broke. These fallen Angea, now called the Devi, were powerful and brutal in their assaults. Relentless and uncaring in who they hurt in their drive to take over. They wanted what they perceived to be as rightfully theirs. They wanted their own lands, free from the rule of the Royal Family, whom they saw as unworthy to lead.

Factions rose up and banded together, carving out areas for themselves, taking other areas by force and forming their own hierarchy. At its head, a particularly ruthless Devi named Marsec ruled with a bloody fist. His mate, Araecha, was just as fierce and quick to punish. Together, they rained destruction wherever they went, tearing down Spirit Cities to rebuild for themselves. The Eastern Spirit Cities stood no chance. Angea were either captured, killed, tortured or all of the above in the Devi's thirst for domination.

In the West, the Royal Family rallied all they could, taking in refugees from every corner of the Spirit World. Their need for a fighting force was desperate. Hundreds upon hundreds of Angea joined forces to battle the Devi and formed the Royal Army. They quickly adapted their skills and magics for battle, protecting their people from the onslaught of complete decimation. These new Knights developed new powers, evolving and learning from other Elementals in their desire to protect, creating new and powerful ranks within the Knights themselves. Eidelons; the strongest of the warriors, capable of infusing themselves and becoming one with the elements they wield. Aerons; the most adept at various spells, mastering the usage of several elements at the same time. And finally, the Trylleons; masters of martial arts, using their powers in tandem with their spells.

Led by the young Eidelon Knight, Brexlan, the Angea slowly pushed the Devi back. It was a long, tough and bloody fight, and after many decades of war, they eventually succeeded. The Devi retreated, licking their wounds, but many lives and much land was still lost to them. The Spirit World was ripped in half.

The Angea worked to restore balance and prosperity and safety as best they could. Knights patrolled daily, quickly taking care of any lingering threats. Their capital city, Spindel City grew and flourished once more, but in order to protect its people, the Royal Family developed a barrier to keep the Devi out, though its power could only cloak Spindel City itself. The rest of the Spirit World unfortunately remained open to the enemy, however the fear of attack lessened over time as the Knights strength and force grew, and the Devi slowly withdrew.

Meanwhile, Marsec and Araecha waited. They had delivered a hard enough blow to the Angea that they knew they would never forget. And quietly, in the dark reaches of their own capital, Spiral City, they plotted revenge. Occasional parties were sent out to test the boundaries, bringing back information of events and happenings, keeping tabs on the Angea and the Royal Family. The Devi developed their own cities, their own sets of powers and brand new elements. Though the costs were sometimes a high price to pay, they felt the sacrifices were more than worth it in their pursuit for more.

Over the thousands of years that followed, the bloodlust waned, though the thirst for power did not. The Devi grew into their own thriving nation with their own schools, armies and their own Royal Hierarchy. New Devi were born through traditional breeding, not just corruption. Over time, the wars grew farther and farther apart as the Devi could now sustain themselves as a people, and the reasons to go to war were gradually forgotten.

At least, to most it was. The descendants of Marsec and Araecha never forgot. Stories were passed down from generation to generation; tales of unjust exile and the destroying of land and civilizations and of how their people were unfairly treated. As the years went by, the ruling family continued their centuries long plans. Armies were trained and grew in number. New elements were mastered. And they waited, biding their time until they felt strong enough to attack once more and claim the lands as their own, while the Angea lived in seeming peace, unaware of what going on.

Now, today, both cultures seem content with each other, at least outwardly. An amicable truce has been set now for several thousands of years, born over years of slowly forgetting the wars and simply moving on with their lives, though each side still mostly keep to themselves. They seem content with their own nations, but everyone knows the tales of the Blood Wars.

Rarely does an Angea venture to the East, and Devi do not come to the West. However, there are rumblings and murmurs from the East of stirrings in Spiral City. Something is happening within the Dark Castle, but what it could be no-one yet knows.

Current Day Angea and Devi Interactions

The two capital cities, Spindel City and Spiral City, are completely and magically enclosed off from the other species. Only Angea can come and go freely from Spindel City while only Devi can come and go freely from Spiral City. The rest of the Spirit World, however, is vast and expansive, and completely free roaming, though Angea mostly keep to the Western Regions, while Devi mostly keep to the Eastern Regions. There are a multitude of cities scattered all over the Spirit World, rich in diversity, but it is very rare to see a Devi in the Western Regions, and vice versa. More often than not, if one were to be found out, they would quickly be run out or arrested. Or, in the less savoury sections, much, much worse.

Between the East and West spans a massive desert separating the majority of the Angea and Devi cultures, though there are cities on the edges of this desert and even within where both races come and go, freely interacting to a degree. Generally, the two still try to avoid most meetings but when it happens it's always a mixed reaction. Typically, out of historical habit and due to their general appearances with their horns, black sclera and bat-like wings, more often than not a Devi is met with caution, fear, anger or some other form of negativity by others. Stories of their terror have been long used as warning tales to scare the Angea children even to this day by some. The same could be said of the Angea, however. Tales of oppressive dominating and aggressive Angea are still told among the Devi as well; their own warnings to stay away from the terrible West.

But who knows, perhaps things can be different now. Surely people are more open minded now, right? Only time will tell whether or not history will repeat itself, but with the whisperings of something going on in the East, anything could happen at any time!

That being said, your Angea character's reactions to Devi, and vice versa, are entirely up to you! Not everyone feels the same, personalities vary drastically and the more adventurous Kamitsune travel far and wide, testing these boundaries. Times, and people, can change. Or so some believe and hope.

However, according to both Angea and Devi Ruling Parties, any sort of relationship with the other is strictly forbidden and extremely taboo, subject to extreme consequences if found out! That isn't to say it doesn't happen from time to time, in fact, there is one very old fairy-tale in both cultures of two lovers who would secretly meet until they were betrayed by the very stars themselves that the lovers used to hide beneath. A tragic tale, indeed, but one of caution and warning.

Breeding between the two races simply does not happen. It is biologically impossible. A female's body is magically tuned specifically to their own kind, and rejects the DNA of the male of other species, rendering the male's sperm impotent. This means that Angea can only breed with Angea, and Devi can only breed with Devi. Additionally, any other inter-species breeding (humans, etc,) is also out of the question.
